In general I 'm easy about it but not when you inconvenience me, my staff or other clients. For 1 day safaris you can pay me cash on departure. In case of an overnight I would expect a deposit to cover the accommodation, that's only fair. For 2 day safaris I take a % non refundable deposit as I have to book and pay the accommodation provider, normally even if you cancel. The balance cash on departure. In case of me having to change flights already booked or having to turn someone else away, I will charge you in full before departure. This will apply mostly to last minute bookings and there will be a 100% cancellation fee. I got stuck with the accommodation bill 1 time too many, especially with very short notice bookings that tend to cancel with very little notice as well.In case I die unplanned, you will still get taken by one of my back up guides! :)
Cancellations for accommodation only: As per our booking conditions:
Cancellation of a booking must be made in writing, by the person signing the Booking Form and is not effective until such cancellation is received and acknowledged by ATA. If the cancellation is received 31 days or more prior to departure, the 50% deposit will be forfeited. In the event of cancellation 30 days or less prior to departure, the following charges will apply:
30 - 15 days - 50% of total fare - if I 'm held fully accountable - 100%
14 - 0 days - 100% of total fareIf the Client fails to join a tour, or join it after departure, or leaves it prior to its completion, no tour refund will be made, unless prior agreements between ATA and the Client that only a portion of the tour is to be undertaken .The Client must state this in writing to ATA, at the time of booking, and this written request must accompany the Booking Form.
We STRONGLY advise taking out travel insurance that cover cancellation. Over the last 8 years we have only had 4 cancellations. One was a Botswana upmarket cancelled 4 days before with valid reasons and the client claimed and received over R30 000. With the last a lady booking a 2 day lost R2000. We have paid for the accommodation already and also turned away a booking that overlapped.
Please note that we have never cancelled a Pilanesberg tour. Once booked I will adjust my schedule and my leave to suit you. If it does happen that I write off my vehicle and are lying in a coma, my staff will make sure that you get taken by a competent guide and suitable vehicle even if we have to pay in.
